NICHOLS TO PLAY IN DECIDER FOR WANDERERS

Post match a sour Brisbane lodged an official complaint

Mitch Nichols - Western Sydney Wanderers
Mitch Nichols will play in the A-League Grand Final.

Common sense has prevailed! The kid with the finger deformity that rears it’s head at the most inopportune times can play in the Hyundai A-League Championship Final.

Mitch Nichols was cited by FFA under the ‘code of conduct’ laws for giving Brisbane Roar fans the finger after Western Sydney’s semi final win. Post match a sour Brisbane lodged an official complaint that threatened to rule Nichols out of the Final.

True, Nichols did lose the plot. After the final whistle the blonde bomber cut a path direct to the Roar fans and gave the rabid Queenslanders a two fingered salute. Team mate Scott Jamieson stated that Nichols had been targeted by the travelling Brisbane fans for the whole match. Though I’m a firm believer in players grinning and bearing it (when abused by fans), Nichols’s reaction was excusable. I’m sure there is a faction out there screaming ‘what about the children’, but I don’t think we’re suddenly going to see schoolboy footballers giving the finger at this weekend’s local U/11s match. Get over it.

The FFA’s decision on the matter was not to exonerate Nichols but to delay adjudication. Bravo!

The A-League’s finale is better for it. Mitch Nichols has starred for Western Sydney Wanderers this season, slotting 10 goals and creating 60 chances. The midfielder has gone from strength to strength after his torturous time at Cerezo Osaka in 2014.

Tomorrow Nichols gets his chance to give Western Sydney Wanderers the Championship Trophy they covet.
