JEONBUK OFF TO WINNING START IN ASIAN CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC have beaten FC Tokyo 2-1 in the Asian Champions League 1st Round.

Playing at home in Jeonju, Jeonbuk found themselves locked in a tough battle with their J-League opponents and it wasn’t until the 39th minute that Go, Moo Yul gave the home team the advantage. The forward got on the end of a ball from Lopes on the left of the box, side footing the ball across the face of the keeper and into the corner of the net.

The second half was slightly different with Jeonbuk applying the pressure and coming up with double the shots of their opponents (9-4). After two missed opportunities Lee Dong-Gook finally gave Jeonbuk that two goal cushion they coveted (83rd Min). The 36 year old had the ball at his feet in the box with scrambling defence dashing across the box toward him. Using all his experience and poise he simply cut inside and let his right boot do the talking.

FC Tokyo were able to give hope to their travelling fans with a goal in the 87th minute, courtesy of Takuma Abe. It was all too late though, and Jeonbuk ran out winners as expected.

Next week Jeonbuk play Jiangsu Suning in China. The home team will be smarting after a shock 1-1 draw with Vietnamese club Became Binh Duong. Meanwhile, FC Tokyo will hope to get three points next week while hosting the visiting Vietnamese.
